In violation of the General Data Protection Regulation approved by the EU in 2018, Lisboan’s city hall in Portugal shared the data of hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters with the Israeli Embassy. Subsequent media reports showed the city hall of Lisboan had also shared data of protesters in front of the Cuban, Angolan and Venezuelan embassies with the respective embassies, as well as data on pro-Palestinian protesters with the Israeli embassy. The mayor stated in a press release that the data protection officer has been dismissed. He also affirmed that an external audit of the city hall’s data protection policies will also take place.
