Researchers Aviv Gaon and Amnon Rubinstein published a new study in the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review, Volume 28, 2022, titled: “When the Majority Becomes the Minority: The Case of Israel.” The study claims that in any society, a balance of power is reflected in the difference between majority and minority groups. It is important to consider the impact of a group on social, cultural, and political discourse rather than its size. This article argues that the effect of the majority group on the lives of its members is not connected to the population size. In the context of Israel’s political structure, minority groups such as non-liberals and ultra-orthodox use their political influence in order to give their own members more rights and weaken those of Israel’s secular majority group.
