The Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock said that he abhorred the violence that has killed and injured tens of children and other civilians and caused extensive damage to homes and vital infrastructure. He added that hostilities must stop. He echoed the Security General’s calls for the parties to stop the aerial and artillery bombardments and the indiscriminate launching of rockets. He added that the parties must respect the international humanitarian law, including the fundamental principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution. He also said that the adequate funding issue must be addressed to enable a speedy response to the humanitarian needs. He called on donors to accelerate their contributions to the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) Humanitarian Fund without delay. He called on opening the crossings with Gaza for the entrance of essential and humanitarian supplies. He finally called on all parties taking part in the hostilities to agree to a humanitarian truce to allow for emergency humanitarian relief distribution. For further details, click here.
