The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territories occupied since 1967, Michael Link, and with the support of the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, Nils Melzer, said in a press statement that the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision on its jurisdiction over grave crimes committed in occupied Palestinian territory, including potential war crimes, is a major move towards ending impunity and ensuring justice. The Special Rapporteur noted that the decision came in line with a number of authoritative UN reports calling for accountability and for a credible Israeli investigation into allegations of grave crimes.
