The Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee (Charter Committee) of the League of Arab States, together with the Executive Director of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, discussed ways to document the crimes of the Israeli occupation forces and the role of national mechanisms in the Arab States, in particular those receiving wounded victims of occupation crimes. The discussions also addressed ways to operationalize the recommendations of the International Conference on “Strengthening Accountability and Criminal Accountability for War Crimes and Grave Violations: Palestine as a model,” especially with regard to the activation of the Follow-up Committee, which was formed on the basis of the outcome of the conference held in March 2021 in Cairo. For his part, the Chairman of the Arab Commission on Human Rights, Dr. Jaber Al-Marri, expressed the Commission’s readiness to provide all forms of support to national human rights institutions to document such crimes in preparation for future steps to be taken in that context, stressing the need for cooperation and complementarity among the various national, regional and international human rights mechanisms in order to create an environment conducive to human rights practices.
