Tarik Alami, Director of the Emerging and Conflict Related Issues Division at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), introduced a note outlining the measures that Israel has taken to enhance its control, in particular, the occupied Palestinian territories and its impact on the Palestinian population, during the meeting of the Second Committee of the United Nations in charge of matters Economic and financial on “the Economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan.” The note covers ongoing Israeli practices and policies, particularly those that violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law and affect the social and economic conditions of the population living under its military occupation.
