Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry spoke with his Israeli and Palestinian counterparts, to prepare for the meeting of “advancing peace efforts” in the Middle East during the next stage, in coordination with the US, the International Quartet and all concerned parties. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in recent weeks that he is seeking to establish an “international peace conference” under the auspices of the United Nations and the Quartet for the Middle East, to establish a Palestinian state. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers’ discussion of advancing peace efforts came through a phone call in preparation for the Quartet meeting, which includes Egypt, Jordan, France, and Germany in the coming days. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement added that coordination is taking place at the level of the two foreign ministers as well with the Palestinian side, within the framework of the necessary preparation for the Quartet meeting.
