The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the excavations carried out by the Israeli authorities in the Western Wall Square “al-Buraq Wall,” near the Mughrabi Gate. The ministry’s spokesperson; Daifallah Al-Fayez, confirmed Jordan’s rejection of all unilateral Israeli measures in occupied East Jerusalem, the Old City and surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque. Al-Fayez affirmed that the Administration of Jerusalem’s Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs is the only authority with exclusive jurisdiction to manage all Al-Aqsa Mosque affairs following international law and the status quo, stressing that all maintenance and restoration work in the mosque and its surroundings is within the exclusive prerogative of the management of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf. Furthermore, he called on Israel to stop these acts immediately and abide by its obligations as the occupying power in occupied East Jerusalem under international law and to stop distorting the identity of the Old City or changing its character.
