The Palestinian National Council said that the crimes of the Israeli occupation authorities in occupied Jerusalem and its sanctuaries and national historical and archaeological symbols require international accountability for their violation of international resolutions, including what was decided by “UNESCO” in 2016.
The council added that the occupation authorities’ insistence on preventing all restoration work in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and obstructing the entry of basic materials needed for maintenance, and the previous measures of measuring areas and buildings inside the Temple Mount, is a continuation of the restrictions on the employees of the Islamic Endowments Department in Al-Aqsa Mosque, as summons and arrests come in the context of completing the implementation of its missionary project for the city of Jerusalem.
The council continued that the occupation’s continuing to obliterate the landmarks of the city of Jerusalem, as it is happening now with the palace of Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in East Jerusalem, and the plans to convert it into a Jewish synagogue and robbery of its history, national symbolism and historical value, is a flagrant violation of the Hague Convention and the relevant Geneva Conventions. And the numerous “UNESCO” decisions that rejected the claim of Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem as an occupied Palestinian city.
