The permanent representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, sent three identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council for this month “South Africa”, and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, about the escalation of crimes committed by Israel, the occupying power, against the Palestinian people.
He said that the absence of serious efforts to hold the occupying power accountable and ensure protection under international humanitarian law has made the Palestinian people more vulnerable to the brutality of the Israeli authorities and that such a violation of the law and human rights must be at the top of the Security Council’s agenda. Adding that the inaction and continued silence of the Security Council has allowed these violations to pass unchecked, and damaged the Council’s credibility and its ability to assume the responsibilities entrusted to it under the charter.
