The United Nations Department of Global Communication held a webinar on December 8, 2020, entitled “The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and Challenges of the New Decade.” The event aimed to bring together journalists, media experts, think tanks, diplomats and academics from Palestine, Israel, the Middle East, Europe, the US, and other parts of the world to discuss issues and trends related to media related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The webinar discussed how the systematic spreading of lies has changed how traditional media reports the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and provides ways for citizen journalists to quickly report on their livelihoods. Melissa Fleming, Director of the webinar and Under-Secretary-General of the UN Department of Global Communications, read a letter from the Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, in which he said: “29 years ago, this annual event was born to help promote peace and understanding between Israelis and Palestinians. Unfortunately, this can’t be achieved. Peace is now more distant than ever.” The Secretary-General added that he understood the deep feeling of despair among the Palestinian people, noting that “the dreams of one generation after another have faded because of the conflict and more than half a century of occupation.” To check the news, click here
