U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin called on the U.S. Department of Education to investigate a number of public schools with pro-Palestinian teachers in New York City accused of teaching children anti-Israeli material. Zeldin sent a letter to the Federal Department of Education and its counterpart in New York City denouncing the situation and urging departments to “do everything in their power to combat anti-Semitism and anti-Israel in public schools.” Zeldin’s call for action follows NYC Educators For Palestine’s expression of solidarity with “Palestinian teachers and students living within the occupied territories, as well as within Israel’s borders,” and its recognition of the challenges they face as a result of “Israel’s policy of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.” “Using anti-Israel rhetoric in our children’s schools will only encourage anti-Semitic attacks and vitriol throughout our country,” Zeldin said. He noted that the 2019 executive order signed by President Trump obliges the Department of Education and the Office of Civil Rights to “investigate and take decisive action if a case of anti-Semitism is established.” For further details, click here
