The United Nations and the Palestinian Authority launched the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan in the Occupied Palestinian Territory to assist 1.8 million vulnerable people. According to the latest report on humanitarian needs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, 2.45 million Palestinians, or 47% of the population need assistance. The report referred to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the past year, its social and economic consequences, and the temporary suspension of coordination between the parties. The report stated that about 346,000 Palestinians, whose need for assistance was classified as average, are now in urgent need of humanitarian aid. The plan amounts to $ 417 million to meet the humanitarian needs of the Palestinians. The Acting United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Lucia Elmi, said: “The impact of the prolonged military rule, restrictions imposed on movement and internal divisions, and the insufficient respect for Palestinian rights as stipulated in international law, all of this is now exacerbated by COVID-19.” To check the news, click here
