Michael Lynk, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, and Ms Tlaleng Mofokeng, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, called on Israel, the occupying power, to ensure equal access to the COVID-19 vaccines for the Palestinian people under occupation. In a statement, the experts said, “it has not ensured that Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza will have any near-future access to the available vaccines,” expressing their concern about the deteriorating health situation in the Gaza Strip. The experts emphasized that Israel is required under the Geneva Convention to facilitate relief plans even if relief consignments are provided, as Article 60 states: “such consignments shall in no way relieve the occupying power of any of its responsibilities for health care to the protected population.” To check the news, click here
