The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) launched a US$ 38 million flash appeal to cover the humanitarian needs of affected populations in Gaza and the West Bank. UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, said that the UNRWA has immediately stepped up an emergency humanitarian response. He further added “but we need financial support to scale it up to the level of acute needs of the impacted populations”. According to this flash appeal, the UNRWA called for support to maintain the provision of essential health services and emergency first aid as needed; enhance the provision of psycho-social support including for school children; and deliver multipurpose cash assistance to vulnerable refugee families whose properties have been damaged from confrontations. Lazzarini added “the fight must stop immediately, the escalation across the occupied Palestinian territory is the direct consequence of the failure of the international community to resolve this conflict, including a just and lasting solution for Palestine refugees. It is the direct consequence of decades of displacement, occupation and blockade. For further details, click here
