The Commissioner-General of the Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees “UNRWA”, Philippe Lazzarini, warned of the repercussions of the funding deficit of $ 130 million in the UNRWA budget, amid the strong spread of the “COVID-19” virus. This came during the meeting of the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, concerned with social, humanitarian and cultural affairs and human rights issues affecting peoples around the world, which was held at the permanent headquarters of the Assembly in New York. Lazzarini said that UNRWA’s funding gap today is $ 130 million, and it needs 40 million USD to sustain its humanitarian operations, including food and cash assistance to over 1.4 million conflict-affected refugees coming from Syria or living in the occupied Palestinian territory. He explained that the total number of Palestinian refugees infected with the virus increased to more than 10 thousand cases in the past week. To check the news, click here
