The US Chargé d’Affairs to the United Nations, Richard Merrill, affirmed that President Joe Biden’s policy in the Middle East will be supportive of the two-state solution, one in which Israel lives in peace and security alongside a viable Palestinian state. Merrill referred to the need for member states to assume their responsibilities to improve the Palestinians’ situation and provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, urging Israel’s government and the Palestinian Authority to avoid unilateral steps that make a two-state solution more difficult, such as the annexation of territory and settlement activity. He also added that “the Biden administration will restore credible U.S. engagement with Palestinians and take steps to re-open diplomatic missions closed by the administration of former President Donald Trump, and will continue to urge other countries to normalize relations with Israel, which according to him is not a substitute for Israeli-Palestinian peace.”To check the news, click here
