Al Mezan Center for Human Rights denounced the continued use of excessive and lethal force by the Israeli forces against children and youth taking part in a peaceful demonstration. The protest was organized east of Gaza’s Khan Yunis governorate, in protest against the continued siege of the Gaza Strip, the severe restrictions on the freedom of movement of people and goods, and the attacks on the Holy City. The demonstrators largely posed no threat or danger to the life, security, or safety of the members of the Israeli forces. Hence, their targeting constitutes a grave human rights violation that calls for accountability. The Centre called on the international community to urgently intervene to preserve the lives of civilians, end the Israeli blockade and closure of the Gaza Strip and put pressure on the Israeli government to enable the Palestinians to move freely inside and outside the Strip.
