On this day in 1949, the UNSC adopted two resolutions:
- Resolution (72) expresses special praise for the qualities of patience, perseverance and devotion to the ideals of world peace demonstrated by the late Count Folke Bernadotte who, together with 10 of his staff, gave his life in the service of the UN. It expresses its appreciation to the members of the staff of the United Nations Mission in Palestine, including members of the United Nations Secretariat and Belgian, French, Swedish and US officers who served as staff and as military observers in Palestine.
- Resolution (73) found the Armistice agreements to be an important step towards the establishment of lasting peace in Palestine and considered them to replace the truce provided for in Security Council resolutions (50) of May 29, 1948, and (54) of 15 July 15, 1948. Once all the work entrusted to the United Nations Mediator in Palestine has been carried out, it shall exempt the acting Mediator from any further responsibilities under UNSC resolutions.
