The Governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, condemned the plan of the “Ateret Cohanim” settlement association calling for converting the palace of the former Mufti of Palestine, Hajj Amin al-Husseini, in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in central occupied Jerusalem, into a synagogue, and doubling the number of settlement units in the vicinity of the palace from 28 to 56 settlement units. Ghaith also condemned the occupation’s preventing Al-Aqsa Mosque reconstruction committee from carrying out periodic maintenance work in the El-Marwani Mosque, and affirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is the exclusive property of Muslims under the Jordanian custodianship, and its restoration falls within the prerogatives of the Islamic endowments. Ghaith called on the international community and competent organizations to assume their responsibilities to put an end to the policies of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement against the people of Jerusalem.
