The Center for the Defense of the Individual “HaMoked” issued a statement saying that the Israeli High Court had rejected a request by the Israeli government for a further hearing regarding the judgment of canceling a punitive demolition order targeting a home in the northern West Bank. The Israeli government had called for an additional hearing, saying that the judgment was a new precedent, while HaMoked demanded that if the court decided to hold another hearing, it should be held as a principled review of the entire legal issue of punitive home demolitions. However, the president of the court cited a 2014 Supreme Court ruling that the use of a demolition measure is allowed as long as its benefit exceeds the damage it causes. Consequently, in each case, the central question is reasonableness and discretion that the military commander exercised in issuing the demolition order. To check the news, click here
