Human Rights Watch (HRW) released an article titled: “On Israel and Palestine, It’s Time for Canada to Recognize Reality,” before Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau’s visit to Israel and the West Bank to promote the two-State solution to reach a goal of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace. HRW added that Canada has opposed the ICC’s exercising of jurisdiction over serious crimes committed in the OPT and has “lost sight of a dire problem that requires urgent and immediate redress”. The organization noted that Canada is one of the few states that has publicly rejected to label Israel’s actions as apartheid. HRW called on the Canadian Foreign Minister to acknowledge the reality on the ground for what it is, and press Israeli authorities to take steps to end apartheid and persecution.
