The head of the General Authority for Civil Affairs, Minister Hussein al-Sheikh, said that an official letter delivered to the Palestinian leadership from the Israeli government confirming its commitment to the agreements signed with the PLO. Al-sheikh added that in light of the international contacts made by President Mahmoud Abbas regarding Israel’s commitment to the agreements signed with it, and based on the official written and oral letters received by the leadership, confirming Israel’s commitment to this, the relationship with Israel will be resumed.
Before May 19, 2020, the date President Abbas announced the suspension of agreements with Israel. Al-sheikh affirmed that “there was an effort from several countries and parties, such as the European Union, China, Japan, and Islamic countries, and these efforts were successful, as the international position on the deal of the century has radically changed.” “This victory constitutes a window for the resumption of relations with the United States after the new administration officially takes over its duties next January,” Al-sheikh said.
