The Director of the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories “B’Tselem”, Hagai El-Ad, delivered a speech before the European Parliament Committee on Human Rights, during a session of the Subcommittee on Human Rights, in which he spoke about the urgent need for serious and resolute European steps to clarify to Israel that the violation of the Palestinian human rights is a matter that has consequences.
El-Ad said: “The European Union can take into account its foreign policies the consequences of Israel’s violations of human rights. Europe has previously used its influence as a successful lever in the past. Failure to do so is a political choice that undermines Europe’s commitment to human rights and weakens the rules on which the international system is based; This normalizes the oppression and dehumanizes Palestinians because – apparently – no one has been held accountable for their permanent persecution.”
