On this day in 1979, the UNSC adopted its resolution (452), approving the recommendations contained in the report of the Security Council Committee, which was drawn up pursuant to resolution 446 (1979) to examine the situation concerning settlements in the occupied Arab territories since 1967, including Jerusalem. It considers that Israel’s policy of establishing settlements in the occupied Arab territories has no legal basis and constitutes a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the protection of civilian persons in time of war, of August 12, 1949. It stresses the need to address the issue of existing settlements and the need to take measures to ensure the protection of confiscated property.
