Gathering a diverse audience of over 55 participants including university law professors, diplomats, holders of PhD and LLM degrees, as well as experts in the Law of the Sea (LOS), Law for Palestine, ASCOMARE, and DEHUKAM have recently concluded a collaborative high-level training workshops centered around the Law of the Sea and its application to the Palestine-Israel context. The program was delivered with the contribution of esteemed international figures and prominent members of the academic and judicial communities worldwide.
The five-day training program delved into a variety of crucial topics, ranging from technical insights into the Law of the Sea, examination of UN and other legal manuals, regulations surrounding Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), preservation of the marine environment, maritime conflicts, and diplomatic negotiations. The program also spanned diverse sub-branches within the Law of the Sea, with a dedicated focus on the Israel-Palestine context. Expert panels engendered lively and intellectually stimulating discussions, generating insightful questions that will serve as the basis for upcoming programs.
The workshops culminated with a panel dedicated to careers and job opportunities, providing participants with a comprehensive outlook on potential paths in the field. Experts and practitioners from notable institutions such as the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), UN Division for Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea (DOALOS), World Maritime University (WMU), and University of Edinburgh shared invaluable insights into application processes, avenues for professional growth, and opportunities for further development.
This course, developed by Law for Palestine, ASCOMARE and DEHUKAM, is envisioned to be a part of a long-term objective of building legal capacity and expertise-house in the area of Law of the Sea with a focus on Palestine – Israel
In recognition of their contributions to the success of this training, the organizing partners extend their heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed guest speakers and participating institutions.
