In a statement issued on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Palestine’s Land Day, the Palestinian National Council (PNC) warned against the alarming settlement policies and measures implemented by the Israeli occupation authorities in the Palestinian territories, especially in Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley. The statement warned that the occupation would create a ministry for settlement works, provide tax facilities to settlers and cover for their attacks on Palestinians. The PNC called on Arab, regional and international bodies and parliaments to condemn the Israeli policy of ethnic cleansing and strengthen their support to the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights. The statement reiterated calls for the full prosecution of Israeli war criminals by international courts. PNC also called on the United Nations and its organisations to implement its decisions on the Palestinian issue and to activate internationally binding mechanisms relevant to these decisions to ensure Israel’s commitment to international law, including by ending its occupation, as well as enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their right to return and self-determination in their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
