Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh called on Britain to exert pressure on Israel to hold Palestinian elections in Jerusalem, and to allow international observers to access the Palestinian territories. The Prime Minister said that holding elections in Jerusalem is a national and political necessity, as well as an Israeli commitment to the signed agreements that allow Jerusalemites to vote and run within their geographical borders. On the other hand, Shtayyeh praised British calls for a neutral stance on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and for respecting its independence, stressing that Israel violates international law and human rights in Palestine and therefore must be held accountable.
