Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said that “the initiative of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to hold an international conference on peace in the Middle East will be at the centre of the debate in the next session of the Security Council.” The meeting of the Security Council shall also address the reactivation of the Quartet for Peace, in the light of the new United States Administration under the chairmanship of Joe Biden. The Palestinian Council of Ministers praised the position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia rejecting normalization with Israel, expressed by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, in which he stressed that the establishment of relations between the Kingdom and Israel was subject to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital, as stipulated in the provisions of the Arab Peace Initiative.
