Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called on US President Joe Biden’s administration to abolish an American law that considers the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and its affiliated organizations a terrorist organization. Abbas said he looks forward to “developing and strengthening” ties with Washington, which were cut off by Ramallah in 2017 after the Trump administration recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He pointed out that this requires removing some obstacles, the most important of which is addressing the anti-terrorism law that was enacted in 1987. Abbas further said that both the PLO and Israel recognized each other as legitimate representatives of the Palestinian and Israeli peoples respectively in the Oslo Accords that were signed in 1993, which means that the use of this law has lapsed.
