Taylor and Frances published a paper by researcher John Dart in the European Journal of Sport and Society titled, “From Ferguson to Gaza: Sports, Political Sensitivity, and Conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Era of Black Lives Matter.” The research analyzes the relationship between anti-racism, anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism. The scholar discusses how these tensions echo those of the 1960s and 1970s, during the height of the civil rights movement; since the core issues have not changed. The research raises important questions about how sports organizations function in a world where sport is seen as “apolitical” and strives for “neutrality.” The article also assesses the challenges that arise when sports organizations and their athletes choose to engage in a particular type of sports policy.
