Author and scholar John Quigley published a new book titled “Britain and its Mandate Over Palestine: Legal Chicanery on a World Stage.” Quigley discusses Britain’s legal status in Palestine and their relation to the League of Nations, both of which have not been thoroughly examined before. By taking a closer look at these issues, this book, published by Anthem Press, discusses how a commonly accepted analysis is in fact historically incorrect.
Quigley raises four new points regarding Britain’s involvement in Palestine: 1) Britain had no legal status in Palestine, 2) the international community did not recognize the Jewish people’s right to self-determination, 3) the Mandate document Britain made had no legal force, and 4) the League of Nations did not give the British or the Jews rights. Quigley builds his argument through referring to overlooked documents such as a plea filed by the British Government in the Permanent Court of International Justice admitting it had no legal basis in Palestine.
