The Department of Human Rights and Civil Society in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) called on the international community and its institutions to take action to implement the international laws relevant to journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories. Especially recently, journalists have been subjected to violence and unjustified arrests by the Israeli occupation forces. The PLO said that based on Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, and Article 79 of the first Additional Protocol, international humanitarian law “prohibits murder, mutilation, torture, cruel, humiliating and degrading treatment… and unfair trial.” of all civilians, including journalists. The PLO called on the international community to hold Israeli officials accountable for all violations committed against Palestinian journalists, especially the bombing of local, Arab and international media offices in the recent aggression on the Gaza Strip.
