Adalah said that an Israeli court relied on the Jewish nation-state law in a recent racist ruling that the municipality’s funding for school busing is not required for Arab kids because it will encourage Arab families to move into the “Jewish City.”The Israeli Magistrate’s Court said that “the city of Karmiel” is a “Jewish city,” and that that Arabic-language schools or funding transport for Arab schoolchildren are liable to alter the city’s demographic balance and damage its character. The court used the Israeli Jewish nation-state law to justify the municipality’s policy that prevents Arab children from reaching schools in the northern city of Karmiel. In this regard, Adalah submitted a petition against Israel’s Jewish Nation-State Basic Law to the Israeli Supreme Court, on behalf of all of the Arab political leadership in Israel – the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel, the National Committee of Arab Mayors, and the Joint List parliamentary faction.
