Al Mezan Center for Human Rights denounced the Israeli occupation authorities’ continued policy of prolonged and renewed administrative detention orders against Palestinian detainees without informing them of the charges against them or affording them the right to defend their case, which constitutes arbitrary detention that affects the foundations of justice guaranteed under international law. The Center stressed that this Israeli policy undermines the principle of a fair trial, as detention is based on an administrative order without a judicial decision, an indictment, and without a trial in accordance with international law. The number of administrative detainees is about 550. Al Mezan Center called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities towards the residents of the occupied Palestinian territories and to take action towards ensuring respect for the rules of international law, and to exert pressure on the occupying power to revoke the policy of administrative detention.
