Law for Palestine (L4P) is a Palestinian-international legal and non-profit organisation working to harness the potential of international law to advance the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and contribute to a more just international legal order. The organisation was founded in March 2020 and is registered in both the United Kingdom and Sweden.
Led by a diverse team of Palestinians and non-Palestinians from across the globe, L4P operates primarily on a pro bono basis. It works within the broader Palestinian rights ecosystem through legal knowledge production, litigation before international and domestic institutions, advocacy for Palestinian rights in multilateral fora, and capacity building for the legal movement concerning Palestine.
Law for Palestine brings together international legal scholars, lawyers, practitioners, civil society organisations, and grassroots actors, translating legal knowledge into practical tools that can be used in courts and other international and national forums, as well as in policy development, advocacy, and public discourse. L4P remains deeply rooted in the Palestinian legal context, working with partners on the ground to make international legal knowledge and processes accessible to affected communities, and to strengthen Palestinian engagement with international legal discourse and mechanisms.
In July 2022, L4P received accreditation from the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. In December 2023, L4P was included in the ReliefWeb resource database, the UN’s humanitarian information service, connecting our work with a global network of humanitarian information resources. L4P has also developed a broad network of partnerships with organisations and universities worldwide, including collaborations with ECOSOC-accredited organisations to conduct joint activities at the UN and the Human Rights Council. In a short span of time, L4P has emerged as a credible source of information, legal actions, training, and a hub for developing legal discourse among international law scholars and professionals working on the question of Palestine.
What we do
Law for Palestine’s work rests on three mutually reinforcing pillars:
Law for Palestine produces rigorous, accessible, and movement-responsive international legal research and analysis on Palestine. Our work includes in-depth and multifaceted legal studies, policy briefs, databases, and monitoring tools. We also produce Arabic translations of key international legal materials. Additionally, Palestine’s Legal Scene provides weekly documentation of legal and policy developments relating to Palestine, helping practitioners, advocates, researchers, and policymakers stay informed about a rapidly evolving legal landscape.
Law for Palestine connects legal knowledge with action by participating in, supporting, and coordinating strategic interventions before international and domestic institutions. Our work has included engagement in proceedings before international courts, including the International Court of Justice; strategic litigation across domestic jurisdictions; and accountability initiatives concerning arms transfers and corporate responsibility. Law for Palestine has also developed practical toolkits to enable lawyers and researchers to pursue complementary legal strategies across jurisdictions.
Law for Palestine works to strengthen the capacity of Palestinian and international civil society to use international law effectively in relation to Palestine and to raise awareness of international law and the question of Palestine. Through legal briefings for non-legal partners, professional courses, legal training, practical guides, discussion forums, and other resources, L4P seeks to make legal knowledge accessible to stakeholders engaged in litigation, documentation, advocacy, and mobilisation. It also works to build an effective global network of legal professionals engaged with the question of Palestine.
Capitalising on our global platform, we unite legal professionals, scholars, and advocates to advance the international legal movement for Palestine. We envision a world where Palestinian rights are internationally recognised and protected through a unified commitment to justice, accountability, and the effective application of international law.
Through building a global network of legal professionals, Law for Palestine facilitates legal action, and influences public narratives, specialised discourses, and official policies toward a rights-based approach in the Palestinian context. We empower affected communities by centring their voices, strengthening their legal capacity and connecting them with international legal mechanisms. By engaging diverse expert perspectives, providing comprehensive, objective legal content, and documenting key international legal developments related to Palestine, we strive to uphold and defend the rights of the Palestinian people worldwide in accordance with international law.
