The Council of Palestinian Human Rights Organizations, the Cairo Center for Human Rights Studies, and the Housing & Land Rights Network – Habitat International Network (HIC) – submitted a joint report to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, Michael Link. The report addressed Israeli settlement as a form of colonialism and its impact on the rights of the Palestinian people, along with the role that settlements play in strengthening settler colonialism and apartheid imposed by Israel on the Palestinian people. The institutions called on the Special Rapporteur to reaffirm the importance of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to update the United Nations database of companies involved in the Israeli settlement projects for 2021. The report also urged the Special Rapporteur and all United Nations member states to condemn the Israeli regime of settler colonialism and apartheid. The report also called and urged UN member states to take action against Israeli companies complicit in illegal settlement building, calling for practical and effective steps to be taken to address their negative effects on Palestinian rights.
