The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that, a few hours after Netanyahu announced the construction of 800 new settlement units, Israeli media revealed that an Israeli local committee affiliated with the occupation municipality had approved the construction of 530 new settlement units in the settlements of “Gilo and Ramat Shlomo.” This plan aimed at expanding the settlements and separating the Palestinian neighbourhoods in East Jerusalem from each other and the city of Jerusalem from its entire Palestinian surroundings. The Foreign Ministry affirmed that international condemnations of the settlement are not sufficient and do not constitute any deterrent. We must translate this rejection and condemnation into effective steps to implement the relevant UN decisions, and at the same time, impose sanctions on Israel to force it to stop the policy of settlement expansion in the West Bank, the Ministry added.
