The Palestinian Ministry of Information condemned the detention of eight journalists by the Israeli occupation forces, south of Hebron, during their coverage of the weekly peaceful sit-in over the lands of Umm al-Shaqhan, which Israel threatened it would seize. The Ministry considered the threat as part of Israel’s continued policy of land theft. It also stressed that the detention of the eight journalists requires urgent action and intervention at the level of the UN Security Council to implement its Resolution (2222) on protecting journalists. The Ministry called on the International Federation of Journalists to prosecute the Israeli officials and soldiers responsible for these and other violations against Palestinian journalists and media professionals.
