Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, condemned the decision of the Israeli authorities to confiscate two archaeological sites, Khirbet “Deir Samaan” and “Deir Qala”, located in the Salfit governorate, and confirmed that these illegal and immoral activities are part of Israel’s strategy that focuses on looting and systematic theft of cultural, historical and religious heritage. It also indicated that Israel has recently attacked many historical and religious sites, including Sebastia, the vicinity of Mount Herodes, and other historical heritage sites. Ashrawi called on the international community, including the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to shoulder its responsibilities to protect the Palestinian heritage and to confront the systematic theft of the Palestinian heritage and history by the State of Israel.
