Human Rights Watch issued a statement condemning the continued detention of Ahmed Erekat’s body by the Israeli authorities for more than ten weeks after Israeli officers killed him without justification at a checkpoint, in violation of international humanitarian law. The organization stated that the detention of the bodies is contrary to the customary international humanitarian law requirement of seeking to facilitate the return of the remains of the deceased at the request of the party to which they belong.
