Join Us: Law for Palestine to Participate in Key UN Briefing on International Legal Responsibilities for Palestine

Law for Palestine is honoured to announce its participation in a high-level briefing organized by the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) on Thursday, 31 October 2024, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm EDT (16:00 – 19:00 Geneva) at the UN Headquarters in New York (ECOSOC Chamber), with online participation available via UN Web TV.
The briefing, titled “International Legal Responsibilities for Preventing Genocide, Holding Perpetrators of War Crimes Accountable, and Ending the Unlawful Occupation of Palestine,” will address critical legal and human rights issues related to Palestine, including the recent Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legal consequences of Israel’s policies in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The event will feature expert presentations from:
- Ms. Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territory Occupied Since 1967
- Ms. Tlaleng Mofokeng, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health
- Mr. Chris Sidoti, Commissioner of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel (COI OPTEJI)
- Anisha Patel, Governing Council Member and Head of Content and Discourse Department at Law for Palestine
- Diana Buttu, Member of the Independent Commission for Human Rights of Palestine’s Board of Commissioners (ICHR)
This important briefing will provide a platform for UN officials, civil society, and legal experts to discuss international legal frameworks and identify actionable steps toward justice and accountability. All Member and Observer States, intergovernmental, and civil society organizations are invited to attend. The event will be broadcast live via UN Web TV.
